The archipelago is home to over 140 species of birds. You’ll have the pleasure of seeing many gulls, terns and the oystercatcher, the magpie. The islands are also home to some rarer species, such as the Great Sand-nebrie or the Interrupted-necked Plover, a small bird that lives in the mud.

A unique flora

Île Saint-Nicolas has the distinction of being home to the smallest protected and classified nature reserve in the world. Just over a hectare of the island is dedicated to the Narcisse des Glénan, a unique botanical species. As a result, it has become the Glénan’s emblematic flower. You can also admire – without picking them, of course – superb blue thistles, small coastal borage and sand toadflax with its tiny yellow flowers.

Discover the Glénan archipelago from the sea

Enjoy a unique experience and discover the Glénan archipelago from another angle, from the sea. Rent a sea kayak in Fouesnant and set off for an unforgettable day. Paddle from island to island in the archipelago. Alone, far away from everyday life, admire the natural environment that surrounds you. The Glénan archipelago comprises seven islands and a few rocky islets. Île Drennec, which looks like a heart from the sky, is home to a number of secret coves. The island of Guiriden offers an idyllic stretch of fine sand, accessible only by boat. This is the perfect opportunity to put down your paddles for a stopover in a landscape worthy of the Caribbean! The island of Loch, the largest in the archipelago, boasts a superb sandy beach. The island is also home to many gulls. You can also discover Penfret Island with its lighthouse and semaphore, and Cigogne Islet with its former military fort.
A day gliding from island to island on the water gives you an incredible sense of freedom. The charm and beauty of the surroundings leave no visitor indifferent.
